Santa Barbara Dance Day is a flash mob kind of dance event. Sanctioned by local vendors and the proper city officials, it lacks the spontanaity of a real flash mob, but it still has the effect of surprising and delighting the local community. Local companies are featured performers in places throughout the city. My (then) company, Seher, was given the Paseo Nuevo Mall where we blew everyone’s minds with sword and other sultry belly dance items. However, after an hour, boredom set  in staying in one location, so, we took it upon ourselves to do a real mob at a local Indian Restaurant, India House. From this we created a new performing venue for ourselves (that was my idea, he, he). It was fun just walking in and dancing – and we drew a hella-crowd! The moral of the story is, if you can’t get an audition the standard way, flash mob them!

I recently came across a couple of other flash mobs I really loved and wanted to share, one flamenco and one an awesome Debke in a Lebanese airport! Enjoy!

I cover ever aspect of Belly dance in the classes including Cabaret, Tribal, and Egyptian styles; Bellydance fusion with Indian, African, Spanish, Gypsy, Hip Hop and Burlesque flavors; Belly dancing with props including veils, finger cymbals, swords, fans, fan veils, Isis wings, and candles; technique in floor work and drum solo; and theory in emotional expression, musical interpretation and improvisation.

Bellyskypes are also available with separate pricing. Bellyskypes are live, real time classes over the Internet using Skype’s video conferencing service. You can take these classes on a single class drop in basis, you can attend a Bellyskype Workshop, or you can become Ansuya Bellydance Certified through private Bellyskypes with me.
